Welcome to 220
Whether you are new to Cub Scouts or transferring into Troop 220, we're glad you are here.
Your First Rank
All Scouts will first gain the rank of Bobcat. This important rank teaches new Scouts important aspects of being a Cub Scout including:
- The Scout Oath
- The Scout Law
- The Scout Sign
- The Scout Handshake
- Our Cub Scout Motto
- The Cub Scout Salute
As a parent, it will be helpful if you review these frequently with your Scout as they are used in our Scout meetings.
Scout Oath
On my honor, I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
to help other people at all times;
to keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law
A Scout Is
- Trustworthy
- Loyal
- Helpful
- Friendly
- Courteous
- Kind
- Obedient
- Cheerful
- Thrifty
- Brave
- Clean, and
- Reverant
Uniforms
There are two classes of Scout uniforms. Class A is the dress uniform with a tucked-in, button-up shirt with all appropriate patches attached, belt, neckerchief, and slide. Uniforms can be purchased at the Scout store in Kansas City (on Holmes Avenue, just off 435). Class B uniforms are comprised of a Scout T-shirt with any appropriate bottoms. Appropriate footwear should always be worn to Scouting events. No open-toed shoes or flip-flops are ever allowed for safety reasons.
If you have questions on the appropriate placement of Scout patches, please visit this helpful BSA uniform page.
We occasionally have gently used uniforms that have been donated back to the troop. Please check with the Committee Chair for availability.
Handbooks
Every Scout MUST have a Scout handbook. Their name should be clearly marked on the outside edge of the book pages. All advancements are physically signed in the handbook and are digitally recorded in ScoutBook.
Each rank has its own handbook, with the exception of Webelos which is used all the way through Webelos and Arrow of Light.
If your Scout ever misses a meeting, the handbook will have all the information needed to go over the requirements with your Scout at home. Scouts should bring their Scout Handbook to every den meeting. Parents are allowed to sign off on Cub Scout requirements. Den leaders will approve requirements and keep Scoutbook up-to-date.
We encourage you to visit a Monday night den meeting or Tuesday night Pack meeting and check out our Pack to see if it is a good fit for you and your Scout. If you are interested in joining after visiting the meeting, you will be given an application at the meeting.
Our Committee Chair, Holly Wisner
Annual Pack and recharter fees are due in October for the following school year. If you join mid-year, your dues are pro-rated based on the number of months remaining in the year. A one-time application fee of $25 is due for each Scout with their first application and goes directly to BSA. However, if you miss recharter deadlines and your membership lapses, a new application, and the associated fee, are required by BSA Scouts.
Pack 220 pays for many of the additional activity fees, including campground fees for the family campouts. Some activities may require additional fees and you will be notified in advance if that is the case.
In order to assist with the cost of Scouting, our Troop holds several fundraisers throughout the years. Please see our fundraising page for more information on how you can reduce the cost of the Scouting program.
All Pack fees are paid to our Troop Treasurer. You may pay using cash, check, or Venmo. You may also pay by credit/debit card, but an additional transaction fee will apply.
Pack 220 has s strong tradition of scouting and we have a host of alumni who are passionate about allowing families to participate in Scouting. We never want money to keep a family from joining our Pack. Scholarships are available for dues and campouts. If you are in need of a scholarship, please see our Committee Chair or Cubmaster and we will work out the details with you.
